Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch is optimistic ahead of the new campaign as he welcomed the first team squad back for the start of pre-season training on Thursday.

The Town boss made three signings over the summer, bringing in Connor Thomson, Dale Pearson and Josh Robson in preparation for his first full campaign in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Last pre-season was far from straightforward as weather-related delays in the installation of the 3G pitch led to the surface not being ready and Town needing to play all pre-season fixtures on the road.

But after seeing his side train for the first time this season at Craik Park, a more settled build-up lies ahead.

“I’m coming into my fifth pre-season with the club and first as manager, and it’s the first time we’ve got the 3G pitch for pre-season games and training,” he said.

“We have six good friendlies and there’s a lot of positives already so now it’s down to us on the pitch.

“It’s been a hectic summer but a good one to reflect on the positives of last season. It’s also been a chance to look back on what I/we could have done better as individuals and collectively.

“I feel we can implement this in pre-season and use it to give us a stronger start.”

Seven players left Craik Park over the summer, in what was a busy period of incomings and outgoings.

But Lynch is happy with his additions, his current squad, and the possibility of a few getting a chance to impress.

“It’s the first time there has been a lot of ins and outs with more players to look at in pre-season,” added the Morpeth supremo.

“I’m very happy with how it’s gone, getting three quality players into the squad which can only benefit the players we retained.

“It’s all about results when the season starts; winning is winning. It only breeds confidence.”

Morpeth are first in action on Tuesday, 12th July when they host Whitley Bay at Craik Park in the first game of pre-season. Kick-off is 7.30pm and tickets are available on the gate.
