The Highwaymen make a short (ish) trip to Yorkshire to take on Guiseley in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division on Saturday.

The game kicks off slightly earlier than usual – 12.30pm – at Northmoor, as it was potentially going to clash with England’s last 16 game, before they finished top of their group!

LAST TIME OUT

Guiseley are a team very much in transition after parting ways with manager Danny Ellis, who only penned a two-year deal over the summer following relegation from the National League North.

Charged with revolutionising the squad and maintaining a title challenge at the same time, results have been disappointing and they find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone. That cause wasn’t helped by a 2-1 loss at struggling Liversedge, who had lost every single home league game prior to Saturday’s win. Jake Cassidy’s goal was sandwiched by Joe Walton’s brace for Sedge.

Morpeth aren’t faring too much better as their struggling form extended into a seventh winless game, a fourth straight defeat and a fourth game without scoring. Saturday’s loss at home to bottom side Belper Town was confirmed after two second half goals decided matters.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth manager Craig Lynch is determined to see his side halt their recent run of results and pass a real test of character.

He said: “When you’re on a bad run it’s about character and mentality. We will make our own luck and turn the results.

“But it’s done through desire and a willingness to work for one another. We saw last season the same group of players went four months unbeaten so it can be done.”

Guiseley chairman Gary Douglas was pleased to get a manager with experience of this level when announcing Paul Phillips as the new man in charge, after he left Matlock Town earlier in the current campaign.

He said: “Paul is experienced at this level of football and exactly what the team needs at this moment in time.

“The board, staff and players at the club will give Paul every resource available to us that he needs to be a success at the club.”
