The Highwaymen make the long trip to Marine in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division on Saturday, hoping to extend their good run of form.

After winning their previous two league games, they’ll be aiming to make it three on Merseyside on one of the few 3G surfaces in the league.

FORM GUIDE

Morpeth: Town haven’t won three in a row since August, but can achieve that feat on Saturday at the Marine Travel Arena. They’ve won four of their last six in league and cup, losing narrowly to Ashton (deservedly) and Radcliffe, the latter only succeeding after the Highwaymen spurned numerous chances to go in front.

Marine: A side only promoted this season, they sit seventh with their most recent run of form hugely positive – they’ve won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six. Those draws are just holding them up a touch in their pursuit of a play-off spot.

LAST TIME OUT

A low-key first half was eclipsed by a much improved second as the Highwaymen strode to a commanding 3-0 win over Atherton Collieries at Craik Park. Fenton John smashed in from close range to give Morpeth the opener, with two more goals from Andrew Johnson making it three in 17 minutes as Town moved quickly and effectively through the gears.

Marine needed every second of their clash at bottom side Belper Town to earn a win which perhaps looked unlikely when Sol Solomon’s opener was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time by Tom Wilson. But Lewis Earl would have the final say in stoppage time for 10-man Marine, who had Josh Wardle sent off in the second half.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town boss Craig Lynch is keen to return the favour when travelling to Marine after the latter left Craik Park with a 2-0 victory earlier in the campaign.

“I’m looking forward to the game against Marine,” he said.

“They’re a tough opposition who, in a close game, got the better of us earlier in the season. We have had two very good results and need to keep the momentum going into what will be two big home games the following week.”

Marine manager Neil Young is looking for home advantage to make the difference when they welcome the Highwaymen.

“We played them away and I thought it was a good game,” he said.

“It was at the start of our slump, not slump but we lost a few and weren’t at our best but went to Morpeth and played really well.

“Much more in these leagues, lads will lose confidence quite quickly so you need to try to keep winning games.

“They’re a good side – good thing is we’re at home.”
