Morpeth Town 0-2 Lancaster City
Lancaster City edged past the Highwaymen on Saturday afternoon at Craik Park with one moment of brilliance defining a poor game.
There was very little in the way of action in the first-half with both sides struggling to test the two goalkeepers.
An Aaron Bennett moment of magic lit up the second 45, alongside a Charlie Bailey tap-in, gave Lancaster the three points.
The only real first-half chance came from a well-worked Morpeth move as Jordan Hickey combined well to find himself on the byline and crossed to Luke James, who couldn’t open his body up far enough to guide the ball in.
Minutes into the second-half Lewis Mansell flashed an effort narrowly wide of the post after Charlie Bailey set him free in behind.
With just short of 15 to go, Bennett latched onto a ball out wide and struck it from 30 yards on the half-volley into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Dan Langley still as he watched it fly past him. One of the best goals you’ll see this season.
The Blues ensured the three points in the latter stages of five additional minutes as Charlie Bailey bundled the ball over the line, beating a Morpeth defender to the ball.
