Morpeth Town 1-0 Gainsborough Trinity
Morpeth Town returned to winning ways at Craik Park on Saturday afternoon in the Pitching In NPL with a one goal victory over Gainsborough Trinity.
Nic Bollado separated the sides after a late first-half penalty.
There were few chances either way in the first-half with both teams struggling to get the better of each other’s back line.
That was until the depths of added on time when Nic Bollado got in behind and was taken out by goalkeeper Dylan Wharton inside the box, and Bollado stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick.
Dan Langley’s only real action of the afternoon came quickly after half-time as he tipped over a close-range volley from Jordan Helliwell, displaying some fine athleticism.
He was almost forced into action once again 10 minutes later as Fraser Preston sent a shot that rifled past the wrong side of the post.
Right at the death Nic Bollado had an opportunity to wrap the game up as Morpeth countered the onslaught, but he sent his shot wide with Jack Foalle waiting for a tap in.
It was then Foalle who had a big chance as he broke away but defender Bailey Conway prevented him from reaching the climax of his one-on-one.
Morpeth ended a four-match winless streak in the league whilst also ending their opponents five-match league winning streak.
