Workington 2-2 Morpeth Town
Honours were even in Cumbria on Boxing Day in the Pitching In Northern Premier League after a closely contested encounter.
The Highwaymen took a narrow one goal lead in at the break thanks to a Will Dowling surge forward.
Efe Ambrose replied after the break before Luke James and Steven Ring scored for either side.
After very little in the way of chances during the opening stages, Kai Nugent found himself in space and hit a flying shot which Dan Langley was equal to and parried for a corner.
The last third of the first-half was all Morpeth, and just before the opening goal Nic Bollado had a go from the edge of the area and Alex Mitchell pushed the ball away.
A minute later the breakthrough did come as Will Dowling pressed and won the ball before carrying it towards goal, seeing his initial effort saved but slotted away the rebound.
After the interval Dowling looked for his second as Bollado orchestrated a move and Jack Foalle played the ball to Dowling 20 yards out but his curling strike didn’t quite meet its intended top corner destination.
Workington drew level after the hour mark as former Celtic man Efe Ambrose found an acre of space as a corner was delivered and thumped his header in via the underside of the crossbar.
Perhaps against the run of play, Morpeth took their lead back six minutes later as Luke James received the ball inside the box and with his back to goal fired into the bottom corner with the help of the post.
Right at the death, Nathan Buddle was adjudged to have fouled inside the area and Steven Rigg fired the penalty straight down the middle.
Morpeth Town: Langley, Evans, King, Henderson (C), Robson, Hickey, Dowling, McGowan (Buddle 70′), Foalle, James, Bollado.
