Steven Anderson and Sean Taylor bagged braces as Morpeth Town managed to edge out Jarrow Roofing 5-4 at the Boldon CA Sports Ground.

Anderson opened the scoring on 12 minutes and added a second shortly after Taylor scored his first of the game during a very dominant first-half in which they also missed a penalty.

Arjun Purewal headed in for Jarrow after half-time before Chris Reid put the Highwaymen in control of the game.

That was until the Roofers scored two in four minutes through Kris Hughes and Dan Kirkup around the hour mark.

Taylor found his second four minutes later and despite Chow scoring for the hosts late on, the visitors held out for a valuable three points.

Morpeth were looking to bounce back after the defeat to Altrincham at the weekend, and they came out quickly against the Roofers.

Sean Taylor’s effort was stopped by Andrew Jennison inside the first two minutes before Keith Graydon shot just wide of the post.

And their dominance paid off soon after when the Highwaymen broke the deadlock after 12 minutes.

Ben Sayer’s’ cross was headed by Purewal, but only out as far as Anderson, who struck his shot on the turn into the bottom corner.

Morpeth continued to pen their opponents inside their own half, Jennison produced a fine save to deny Graydon’s strike from 35-yards.

Nick Hay tripped Chris Reid up inside the penalty area on 19 minutes, but the resulting spot-kick from Carr rattled the crossbar.

However, the Highwaymen did find a deserved second in the game, and it came after the visitors produced some dazzling football.

Damen Mullen drove forward and played the ball to Taylor, who danced through several players before rounding the ‘keeper and sliding home.

A third goal soon followed when Anderson latched upon Graydon’s pin-point ball over the top and lofted the ball over the approaching Jennison and the ball nestled into the net.

The Roofers did have a chance seven minutes before the break, but Dan Kirkup’s header went wide.

And it was indeed the hosts, who started the better after the interval, and it took just eight minutes for them to pull a goal back.

Tom Bailey floated a set-piece into the area and centre-half Purewal leapt above his marker and headed past Dryden in the Morpeth goal.

The visitors restored their three-goal advantage soon after when Anderson curled brilliantly at goal, Jennison pushed the ball straight into the air and Reid bundles home at the back post.

Jarrow didn’t let their heads drop and within the space of four minutes their scored another two goals.

The first of which came when Kris Hughes curled into the top corner before Kirkup headed into the bottom corner.

It certainly was an open period in the game, and Morpeth then went and scored their fifth through Taylor, who tapped in from close range after Sayer’s’ effort rattled the foot of the post.

Both players went on to test Jennison before the Roofers got back into the game once more, this time only six minutes remained.

Hughes’ cross found the head of Purewal, whose flick-on landed in the six-yard area and Paul Chow came sliding in to sweep home.

There were worrying moments in the drying embers of the game, Chow headed over Dryden on 87 minutes and Reid had to clear off the line.

And Graydon was forced to clear the danger in additional time when a looping header was miss-judged by Dryden.
