Following a 6-0 thumping of Billingham Synthonia, Morpeth Town start a run of four home games in 10 days when they welcome Willington in the third round of the League Cup. Hoping to claim a quadruple this season – including the Cleator Cup – The Highwaymen know this is a must-win game under the lights at Craik Park (7.45pm).

SNAPSHOT PREVIEW

FORM: Willington are absolutely flying of late and are the in-form team in Division Two. Taking 16 points from a possible 18 is hugely impressive but the nature in which they are beating teams highlights the mood the Blue and Whites are in. Thirty goals in their last nine games shows their obvious attacking strength; only conceding four underlines the collective effort of the side. In their previous three away outings they have won 5-0, 2-0 and 4-0.

Morpeth are pulling further clear at the top of Division One with every passing week thanks to an impeccable run of form – seven wins in a row – which has seen them score 14 more league goals than anyone else this campaign. They’re on course to break the 100-goal mark as they currently sit on 78 after adding a further six at Synthonia. No visiting team has left Craik Park with three points so far this season – covering 15 games – making the home of Morpeth something of a fortress.

LAST GAME: Willington took Crook Town apart in their most recent outing on Friday night. Beating them 6-0, a Conor Winter penalty and a Matty Moffatt strike had them two to the good by half-time. Winter went on to claim his hat-trick with further goals from Jay White and Evann Graham ensuring an emphatic victory.

It’s rare that both sides head into a tie on the back of 6-0 victories but that will happen on Wednesday as Morpeth also thumped their latest opponent. Ben Sayer and Joe Walton put The Highwaymen two ahead by the break before Morpeth ran riot with Mark Davison notching a hat-trick and Sean Taylor adding to the scoresheet.
