Morpeth Town entertain Willington at Craik Park (7.30pm) on a Valentines Day where there promises to be no love lost between the two sides with League Cup progress at stake. Although a division below, the Blue and Whites will fancy their chances in a one-off encounter against the Division One league leaders.
SNAPSHOT PREVIEW
FORM: Morpeth Town returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success at home to Penrith. That success made it just two defeats in 30 league outings this season. Of the six cup encounters we have played, we have lost only twice and that has allowed us to progress into the final of the Techflow Group Senior Cup, as well as winning the Cleator Cup. The Highwaymen have secured 17 successes at Craik Park in league and cup, meaning Willington will have their work cut out to score against a team who have only conceded 19 at home.
Willington have a mixed bag of form at present on the road, winning five but dropping points in eight of their league outings to date. But their current form, including home and away, is impressive as they have lost only once in 17 games and are unbeaten in 14. Scoring 25 in their last eight games, they’re a threat to any opponent.
LAST GAME: Morpeth Town, playing on a difficult pitch at Craik Park, managed to overcome Penrith with a 1-0 success. Sean Taylor flicked a sublime 26th minute Chris Reid pass towards goal and then fired past Bonny Blues keeper Stuart Dixon, a moment of magic which proved the difference between the two sides.
Willington were in action on Friday night and overcame lower mid-table Esh Winning 3-2 to consolidate their own top 10 position.
