Morpeth Town manager Nick Gray is working flat out in an effort to get his side in shape for the season ahead.
Even though pre-season doesn’t start for The Highwaymen until July 3rd, with Morpeth set for their first season in the Evo-Stik League, Gray has been dealing with retained lists, potential signings and pre-season fixture schedules, as well as finding the right people to fill his backroom staff.
With plenty to sort, the Town supremo is eager to get it right in all departments.
“I haven’t stopped since the last game of the season,” Gray told the club website.
“I have been speaking to players. I’ve met players and it is cloak and dagger stuff at times; people say they’ve spoken to you when they haven’t.
“But most of the ones I wanted to keep, I’ve kept. There are a couple of the existing squad hopefully to finalise in the next day or so but I’m hopeful. It takes a bit of time and you’ve just got to be patient. We’ve got to get players to improve the squad which is tough with this squad.”
As for pre-season, there’s just one more piece of the jigsaw before the full list is confirmed.
“We’ve got six friendlies sorted and one left to sort. We’ll announce the full list when that one is sorted,” added Gray.
