Morpeth returned from their second trip to Yorkshire in a week with another point in the bag as they drew 0-0 with a determined Sheffield F.C. side.
The Highwaymen led by the influential Ben Sayer created the better opportunities in the first half but were unable to make their chances count.
Jonathon Hedge was the busier of the two ‘keepers as he was alert to smother a free kick before the best chances of the game fell to Iulian Petrache and Jeff Henderson were both unlucky to see their chances not hit the back of the net.
Sheffield reminded Morpeth that they were still in the game when Smiljanić forced Dan Lowson into a superb save tipping over the effort from the Sheffield man.
Jack Foalle who signed from Whitley Bay had a glorious opportunity to open his account for Town but he got his feet tangled and the chance went begging. Danny Carson had made good progress down the right flank before feeding Foalle.
As we approached half time, there was some head tennis in the Morpeth penalty area but fortunately for those of a Highwaymen persuasion the final header was looped over the crossbar.
The hosts came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second possibly with some harsh words form their manager still ringing in their ears. Jamie Yates fired in an effort that was blocked at point blank range by a Morpeth hand. Despite some appeals from the home players, the referee rightly waved away the appeals.
After that initial chance in the second half there was to be very few chances of note. Mitch Dunne fired over after being set up by Waide Fairhurst in what proved to be the next chance with 10 minutes remaining.
However, the Highwaymen came close to taking all three points when Dominic Moan who was also making his debut hit a snapshot that forced Hedge into a decent save.
Morpeth are back in action at Craik Park on Saturday when they entertain Gresley F.C.
