Although not one of the most dramatic games of the season so far, Morpeth’s 1-1 draw with Belper Town did tell us a few things about the side’s current state:
Jack Foalle scores from wherever he wants to.
The striker nonchalantly flicked a low Ben Sayer cross into the far corner by flicking it over keeper Leigh Overton. It looked destined for the car park, but nestled in the back of the net. So far, Foalle has 20 goals in 20 games during this campaign, netting three times for the Highwaymen; one in the top corner, one in the bottom corner at the back post and one in the far corner. He scores wherever he wants.
Jordan Fry is actually a very decent full-back.
When you list right-backs at Morpeth Town, Jordan Fry features way down the list. Pressed into action with Danny Carson and Stephen Forster unavailable, Fry was faultless, getting forward at every opportunity and working well with Tom Potter down the flank. Fry has been called many things, but he’s a reliable, dependable and solid wherever he plays. An excellent display from the midfielder turned defender.
The Highwaymen’s squad is quality, even when stretched.
Morpeth Town had no less than seven potential first team regulars missing on Saturday in a game which ended in a draw against sixth-in-the-table Belper Town. Despite this, there was still moments of quality and the team looked more than competitive on the day. The important aspect was Morpeth didn’t lose, maintaining an unbeaten run which now stretches to 12 games in Evo-Stik East.
