Midfielder Stephen Turnbull has left the club, with Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Belper Town his final game at Craik Park.
The player, who was also a part of the club’s backroom staff as player assistant, leaves due to increased work commitments.
“I want to say thank you to everyone at the club,” said Turnbull, who made four appearances for the Highwaymen before a serious knee injury sustained last season saw him assume more of a role on the coaching side of things over the summer and into this season.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Morpeth; it’s a proper well run, family football club. There won’t be many better ran non-league clubs in the country. I can’t thank Ken (Beattie, club chairman) enough for everything he has done for me. I’ve never met a chairman who cares for his club and its players as much as he does in all my time in football. I’d also like to thank Nick (Gray, manager) and the lads because they’re a great bunch at Morpeth. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Nick and Lynchy (Craig Lynch, assistant manager).”
Chairman Ken Beattie was sad to see the midfielder leave but understood the decision.
“We will miss Stephen around the club,” said the club chairman.
“He leads by example with all the players really looking up to him for what he has achieved in the game. I know he was torn in deciding what to do in taking his next opportunity as he was enjoying his time at the club so much. We wish him all the best in the future.”
Everyone at Morpeth Town wishes Stephen well for the future. You’re welcome back at Craik Park as a supporter any time Twinny!
