Morpeth Town went to a tough Evo-Stik venue in Frickley Athletic, and came away with three crucial points thanks to Jack Foalle’s brace. Here’s what we learned from a game with three red cards at the Bigfellas Stadium:
We’re not sure what we’ve unleashed on the Evo-Stik League in Jack Foalle
The striker is in imperious form at the minute and despite playing in a much more robust game than previous outings for the Highwaymen, Foalle shrugged it off and netted twice. He simply can’t stop scoring at the minute; long may that continue. After the game, he conducted his initiation song and we can confirm his good form does not translate to singing.
Graeme Pickering has the sliding ability of Franz Beckenbauer
Noted for his formidable defensive skills, the German was a pioneer of his time. Why are we comparing our keeper to him? Well, after rushing out of the box, Pickering slid expertly to take the ball off the toes of the striker before nonchalantly getting up and clearing. Poetry in motion.
Games played 14; goals conceded 8
Morpeth’s defence took on a distinctly different look after half-time. Joe Walton was at right-back, Wayne Phillips at left-back, with Chris Reid and Jeff Henderson in a central role. Graeme Pickering was between the posts. With four potential starters missing, Town’s defence not only stood up to the test but handled everything with a composure and class which made a mockery of everything thrown at them.
