Morpeth Town are delighted to announce the signing of Stuart Mott.

The defender, who can play at right-back or centre-back, signs after a spell at AFC Totton, who are in a similar standing to the Highwaymen in terms of the league structure.

A part of the army, Mott was keen to continue his football career after being posted to Catterick Garrison.

“Home for me is near Portsmouth, where I grew up,” said the new signing, who will be hoping for a place in the squad for the clash with Loughborough Dynamo.

“I have been looking for a club up here and then I got in contact with the manager, Nick Gray, and he invited me down to training and it has gone from there. I am a defender, who can play centre-back or right-back. I’m competitive and tough-tackling but I am comfortable on the ball. Hopefully, I can get in the squad pretty quickly and get some minutes under my belt and contribute to the season going forward.”

He joins a defensive unit which has one of the best records in the Evo-Stik divisions, having conceded just nine goals in 15 league games. But Mott sees that as a challenge he is keen to face head on.

“I’m right up for the challenge in getting into an excellent starting XI,” he continued. “There’s quality right through the squad but you have got to back yourself as a player and try to get in that starting XI and get that shirt. Once I get that chance, I aim to take it and keep my shirt.”
