Following Saturday’s battling point at Pickering Town, we take a look at 3 things that we learned from that game.

  1. The journey on the coach was challenging.

Despite this being our second closest trip of the season, it still took the better part of 2 hours to reach Pickering. This was down in no small part to Sutton Bank. The notorious road takes you up twisting and turning roads at gradients of 25 degrees. However, at no point did our driver not anticipate he wouldn’t be able to make it up. It was a challenge but the driver is another valuable member of the team!

  1. Nick Gray was in a philosophical frame of mind.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Nick after the game on Saturday but he was in a philosophical frame of mind. Whilst he was unhappy with the first half display and not to take all three points, he did make the very valid point that we had gained a point and it was more than what we had before the game. He was equally as right when he said that it could be a very important point at the end of the season.

  1. There is a real desire and commitment in the squad.

After a disappointing first half, some teams would have just shrugged their shoulders and gone through the motions in the second half. Morpeth Town are made of sterner stuff though, they got a deserved equaliser through Ben Sayer and had further chances to win the game through Michael Turner and David Carson. These were in addition to Sean Taylor also striking the woodwork in the first half.
