Following a hard-fought and keenly contested 1-0 win at Ossett United on Saturday, here are three things we learned from our trip to Yorkshire:
1 Chris Reid will get hit time and again but still get up and score the winner.
Chris Reid had been in the wars in the run-up to his decisive header with 14 minutes to go. After being struck in the face during an aerial challenge, Reid shrugged off the injury to stride forward and latch on to Ben Sayer’s free-kick before crashing a header into the back of the net. It won the game for the Highwaymen and epitomised their desire and determination to win on the day.
2 The secret is out, but can he be stopped?
Ben Sayer has consistently created chances this season, whether in normal play or from set-pieces. On this occasion, his accurate delivery from a free-kick set up Reid perfectly to head home. It was assist number 25 for the campaign, adding another tally to a truly staggering number with 11 games left to go.
3 Joe Walton loves a Greggs!
Note to self; don’t attempt an Instagram picture when the players have stepped off the coach midway down to an away day. There’s always the danger of catching Joe Walton with a Greggs. The midfielder was captured with a pastry but it didn’t affect his performance as he came off the bench to help Morpeth to victory.
