Joe Walton was the big winner from the end of season awards as he collected four accolades.
Despite not being able to host an awards night, due to COVID-19 causing the premature end to the season and a nationwide lockdown, it was still important to recognise the efforts and hard work of the players as they progressed the club to a Senior Cup final, the Integro Cup quarter-finals and a position just outside the NPL Premier Division play-offs with a significant amount of games in hand.
The Manager’s Player of the Season (as chosen by the coaching staff) was awarded to Joe Walton, who had a prolific season, scooping the top scorer award after scoring 16 goals.
The Players’ Player of the Season was also given to Walton, with Sam Hodgson finishing second in the voting.
Supporters also had their say on social media, with the Supporters’ Player of the Season won by Joe Walton; it was a similar story with the Volunteers’ Player of the Season as Walton once again took the honours from those who work at the club.
The next playing award was given to Sam Hodgson, who took home the Media Player of the Season. Hodgson, who made 38 appearances, netted his first goal for the club in the 5-2 Integro Cup win at South Shields. Another impressive season from the midfielder, Hodgson’s performances often go under the radar but have been vital in many wins this campaign.
Supporters were also able to vote for their Goal of the Season, which was won by Sean Reid for his sublime strike on the opening day of the season. A 3-1 win over Warrington will be well remembered for the volley from 25 yards which flew into the net to set Morpeth on their way to victory.
The final award was again chosen by supporters as they voted in their numbers for their Game of the Season. Some big games were included but the winner, by some considerable margin, was the 5-2 victory at South Shields in the Integro League Cup.
