One of our Media Team, Sam Donovan previews the forthcoming Northern Premier League Premier Division by looking at the clubs in the league.
In our final part, we look at Stalybridge Celtic, Warrington Town, Whitby Town and Witton Albion.
Stalybridge Celtic – Celtic
Celtic were in midtable when the season finished thanks in part to a good away record with 7 wins on the road. However, their home form left more to be desired with only 5 wins.
Key Signing – Scott Sephton
Joining the club from Matlock Town, Sephton signs without having played for the Gladiators as he joined the club from Warrington Town just before lockdown ended the season.
Season Prediction – Lower Midtable.
Warrington Town – The Yellows
Warrington were sitting in third position prior to the cancellation of the season. For the second successive season, it looked like the Yellows would be in the playoffs. However, if they had turned more draws into wins then would having had a more realistic title push. They scored an impressive 57 goals in 32 games.
Key Signing – Evan Gumbs
A high-profile signing joining the club following his release from Tranmere Rovers. A familiar face to those at Cantilever Park having had 3 loan spells with the club.
Season Prediction – Playoff Spots.
Whitby Town – The Blues
The Blues were poised to make a playoff push when the season was ended. Their away record was impressive picking up 26 points. At the Turnbull Ground though, they won 6 games from 16 which hindered their playoff ambitions.
Key Signing – Mackenzie Heaney
A former Newcastle United academy product, he joined the Blues from West Auckland Town this summer. However, he has been playing in Iceland over the summer to improve his match fitness.
Season Prediction – Upper Midtable.
Witton Albion – Albion
Sitting in 14th position when the season was ended, Witton will be disappointed to have finished in midtable. Problems on the road with only 2 victories stopped them of having any real chance of finishing any higher.
Key Signing – Steven Tames
The striker re-joins the club from Ashton United. In his previous spell at Wincham Park, Tames scored an impressive 49 goals in 90 games.
Season Prediction – Lower Midtable
