Morpeth Town are delighted to welcome Callum Morris back to the club after the centre-back rejoined the Highwaymen.
Having previously played for us in the Northern League a decade ago, Morris took the chance to play professional football with Dunfermline, Dundee United, Aberdeen and most recently Ross County.
The defender, who has previously been called up by Northern Ireland to their World Cup Qualifier squad, is delighted to return to Craik Park, where he hopes to deliver yet more success after our recent rise up the league, FA Vase and Senior Cup success all arriving in the last five years.
“I’ve had a rollercoaster of a career but I’ve loved every minute of it and for sure I’m desperate to add more memory and medals,” said Morris, who made 177 appearances in Scottish football and won the Scottish Championship title and the Scottish Challenge Cup in his time.
“I know the club is ambitious and has an ambitious squad and I want to be a part of that; moving up the league is an achievable target in my eyes.”
Morris returns to a club he knows well from earlier in his career, having played for us during our time in the Northern League.
And when the opportunity arose to return, he was keen to take it.
“I played for the club about 10 years ago and always followed their progress,” continued the 31-year-old.
“I have a brilliant relationship with Ken (Beattie, the chairman) and others at the club so it was a place I knew I’d enjoy being involved in.
“Also, where I am in my career, it was time to take a step toward a new career so getting the opportunity to combine playing and working on the business side of the club ticked all the boxes for me.”
Manager Stephen Turnbull was happy to welcome a first signing of the summer, particularly one with so much experience and knowledge of the game.
“I am delighted to have Callum on board,” said the Morpeth manager.
“He will bring a wealth of experience from higher levels. I’ve played with Callum before and he’s the right type of character we want at the club.
“Securing a player of his quality and experience shows the ambition of the club.”
You can see Callum in action for the first time after his signing when we travel to Dunston on Saturday for our latest pre-season friendly.
