Morpeth Town caretaker boss Craig Lynch was disappointed not to claim all three points at Hyde United after an entertaining 2-2 draw in Greater Manchester.
Seeking a first away win of the campaign, Morpeth had taken a 2-1 lead with Ryan Donaldson and Joe Walton scoring, cancelling out Liam Hardy’s opener for the hosts, but couldn’t hold on as a late Bradley Roscoe goal ensured a share of the spoils.
For Lynch, there were mixed emotions as a valuable point was gained amidst the backdrop of two preventable goals conceded.
“Mixed emotions sums it up,” he said.
“I said on Saturday our away form is terrible but our midweek away form is even worse. I was thinking a point, away, midweek, I’d have taken it.
“But the manner in which we have conceded the goals, I’m gutted.
“On a match day it is about being hard to beat. It is about knowing your man, getting tight enough so he can’t get a run on you and you make sure your man doesn’t score.
“It is as simple as that; you’ve got to be brave and hard to beat.”
The caretaker manager was impressed with his side’s response to going a goal down, with Donaldson’s penalty six minutes later restoring parity before Walton’s marauding run forward ended with a 74th minute goal.
“At Gainsborough we went 1-0 down and got beat 2-0. When it happened at Hyde, I wondered which way it was going to go,” he added.
“Are they just going to sit in? But we worked hard and got it to 2-1.
“But a cheap free-kick and an easy header levelled it. We’re disappointed but that’s how far we’ve come; we’ve had three tough games and then at Hyde, yes we beat them 6-1, but we knew it wasn’t going to be that type of game.
“We’re disappointed at the end of it.”
