Morpeth Town midfielder Luke Carr spoke to Highwaymen TV after an enthralling FA Vase Fifth Round victory over Berkhamsted on Saturday.
Carr scored a crucial penalty late in the first half to pull Town level, and insists the penalty was never in doubt:
“I don’t miss penalties,” exclaimed Carr, “and that’s the truth of the matter.”
“Look, it is a penalty, and they are there scuffing the spot in front of me.
“But I knew where I was going to put it as soon as the ref blew the whistle.
“I am confident both sides, but as I was walking up, the ‘keeper has taken a little step and I put the ball the opposite way.”
Carr had equalised an early Carter goal for the home side before Michael Chilton secured the Highwaymen’s passage with a 64th minute winner.
And Carr says the squad is confident they can go far in the competition:
“We are looking at the draw and it’s a massive chance for us, at home, in the FA Vase, we fancy ourselves to go all the way.”
The midfielder also praised the opposition, suggesting Town has to work hard for the victory:
“To be fair, we had to dig deep at times, we started very slowly.”
“After about half an hour we started getting back into the game, and luckily the ref gave us a penalty.
“I’ve got the goal that got us back into the game just before half time.
“At half-time we got a bit of a rollicking from the gaffer and we’ve come out kicking with wind,
“We always knew we could get into it in the second half, and Chilts, you know, has been doing it for years gets us the winner.”
Carr has made 24 appearances this season for the club, scoring 5 times and creating 7 more.
