The creation of an academy at Morpeth Town has been hailed by the club’s chairman.

The Morpeth Town supremo has overseen much progress in recent years as the Highwaymen have risen through the leagues.

But Beattie is determined to continue the club’s evolution, and reinforce their reputation as a community club within the town.

“It’s fantastic news; we have a thriving junior section, with dozens of teams across the age groups and hundreds of children enjoying the sport,” said Beattie.

“To compliment that, we want the academy to provide a tangible link between youth football and the adult level.

“We’ve got the right people leading it and expert coaches ready to provide outstanding provision for the students who enrol.

“The most important part of this is to provide real-life opportunities for the young people of Morpeth and Northumberland as a whole.

“The pathways are three-fold; going professional in football, achieving semi-professional status and gaining a qualification in a trade.

“Although our coaches will endeavour to do all they can to progress a student’s football career, using our links within other industries will help students to achieve invaluable progress in learning a trade which can sustain their future prospects.”

It’s an incredibly exciting time to be associated with the club.

Beattie was also keen to stress that, hopefully, this is just one part of the club’s future being unveiled, with plenty of projects progressing behind the scenes.

“The club is going through a period of transformation, which hasn’t been seen before,” continued the club chairman.

“Although I can’t go into specifics just yet, there are a number of exciting things happening which we hope to reveal over the summer.

“These moves will have the local community at the heart of things, and ensure we continue to give back to a town which we are proud to represent.”
