Morpeth Town’s newest recruit between the sticks is determined to develop consistency to his game, with Dan Langley confident he is able to take the next step.
The six foot seven inch stopper made the switch to Craik Park after the departure of former long-term Town custodian Dan Lowson.
Having enjoyed fleeting loan spells but also endured frustrating times where minutes on the pitch were at a premium – in a career that has already taken in Newcastle United Under-23s, Gateshead, Spennymoor Town, Oldham Athletic, Blyth Spartans, and Scunthorpe United – Langley is eager to feature prominently in the Highwaymen’s latest NPL Premier Division campaign.
“I am at a point now where I need to be playing every game, enjoying my football and seeing where I am at,” said the goalkeeper.
“I didn’t mind going part-time as it gives me a chance to get myself back enjoying football again. When I heard the Morpeth manager had asked what I was up to, I snapped at it because I knew some of the lads they had signed and I knew a few of the lads already here; it was an idea that suited me down to the ground.”
With four new additions to a core squad retained over the summer, Morpeth are building a competitive group that was already flying in the final month of the previous season.
“It looks a really strong squad they’ve put together,” said Langley, who joins Rhys Evans, Jordan Hickey, and Nathan Buddle as new recruits.
“I think the play-offs are definitely the aim for us.”
Highwaymen boss Craig Lynch was delighted to get the keeper in, after a change in plans left Town needing a new number one.
“It has been a whirlwind three days with Dan,” he said.
“We found out on Tuesday that James Anderson’s (Morpeth’s other goalkeeper last season) circumstances were changing and potentially we needed a new goalkeeper.
“Knowing how big the role is to fill, we acted quickly and, fortunately for us, Dan’s circumstances had changed and he was available.
“I am delighted we can bring a goalkeeper of Dan’s calibre to the football club and I can’t wait to see him play.”
