After Saturday’s FA Vase Fifth Round victory over Berkhamsted, Morpeth Town manager Nick Gray spoke to Highwaymen TV’s Stuart Dick about the victory:
“We dug in again,” commentated Gray, whose side have played just three games in the last two months, all three FA Vase ties.
“The attitude the guys showed before the game was spot on, but it took us a while to get into it, and we were faced with a strong wind.
“First twenty minutes we were finding our feet, but after that we started playing a little bit and got the equaliser just before half time.
“At half time I thought we could push on with the wind, and we got a goal early door. I thought we’d step on it again, but we didn’t.
“It seems all season in this competition it’s been nail-biting, and today was no different.”
Goals from Luke Carr and Michael secured the victory for the Highwaymen, but the Comrades has their fair share of chance, including a 96th minute corner that hit the woodwork.
Gray gave the hosts credit for their performance:
“Credit to Berkhamsted, they kept going and threw everything they had at us.
“You could see how hungry they were, and how disappointed they were at the end, they gave their all, but credit to our lads too, we are still finding our feet after a while off.
And the manager showed his delight at advancing in the quarter-finals for the first time in the clubs history:
Delighted for the club, the chairmen, the town, it’s great for everyone involved with Morpeth Town FC.
