Morpeth Town is pleased to confirm the signing of Jerome Greaves, with the striker joining us from Bishop Auckland.
The forward, who has also featured for Whitby Town over the years, goes straight into tonight’s squad for the clash with Ilkeston Town at Craik Park (7.45pm) in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.
Upon confirming the switch, Greaves was delighted to get it all agreed and is keen to get started for the Highwaymen.
“Since the first conversations with the gaffer (Craig Lynch) and James (Armstrong, Morpeth Assistant Manager) I felt that this is the place for me,” said Greaves.
“Having come across strong Morpeth sides in previous seasons, I’ve always felt that the style we want to play would suit me down to the ground.
“Teams I’ve been a part of in the past have found it difficult at Craik Park because of how slick they moved the ball so I’ve always been an admirer of how they want to play.
“I know what to expect from this league – there are no easy games. It’s very much been a stop-start past 12 months for me so I’m eager to get back playing consistently and hopefully start climbing the league!”
Effective at holding the ball up and getting on the end of deliveries into the box, Greaves will add a new dimension to our attacking line-up, something manager Lynch was keen to have at his disposal, particularly after losing loanee Sam Hodgson earlier in the campaign.
“Jerome is someone we had a look at at the back end of pre-season for a game against Ashington and he went on to score two goals,” said the Morpeth boss.
“Unfortunately, at that time of pre-season it just didn’t fit for both of us for different reasons, with budget and players already coming in on our side.
“Like most players I’ve had or know about, we keep an eye on them and he’s gone to Bishop and done well in matches – we are crying out for another option and that’s what Jerome will give us.
“We’ve alternated Jack (Foalle) and Jamo (Luke James) who have both done brilliantly – now we have different players with different strengths who can have differing impacts on the game.
“I think it has been evident in recent weeks we’ve been missing another player to effect the game; now, with that extra forward, we have options to change it when we need too.”
