Macclesfield 2-0 Morpeth Town
The Highwaymen’s three-match winning streak on the road came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 2-0 at Macclesfield in the pitching In Northern Premier League.
Macclesfield took a slender lead into the break courtesy of Danny Elliott’s early strike.
The other side of the break saw D’Mani Mellor tap home to score the only goal of the half.
Within the first two minutes a mix up at the back allowed The Silkmen two chances from close-range but Dan Langley was on hand to deny both.
The quick pace to the game continued a minute later Jack Foalle countered alongside Luke James and then the latter saw his shot from distance go comfortably wide from distance.
A minute later the action switched end once again as Danny Elliott broke the Peth defensive line but Langley was on hand to make a superb stop with his leg.
Not too long after he did find the net and the opener as a deflected cross found its way to the frontman, and Langley couldn’t quite stretch his leg to it.
The first-half curtailed following the early frenzy with the hosts enjoying most of the ball.
Macclesfield came out of the second-half block quickly and within 40 seconds Luke Duffy took aim from inside the area but Langley was sharply down to his right to parry it away.
Just five minutes later the lead was doubled as James Edmunson struck a free kick onto the inside of the post and it rolled perfectly to D’Mani Mellor to tap-in from two yards out.
Danger came from the flanks relentlessly all afternoon and with 20 to go Sean Etaluku bursted down the channel and crossed to Elliott, who glanced a header narrowly over the bar.
