The Highwaymen make the trip to Atherton Collieries on Saturday, looking to get back to winning ways after defeat last time.

Doing everything but score against Whitby Town during a 1-0 defeat, Morpeth have the chance to claim victory at the Skuna Stadium and maintain their top three position in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

LAST TIME OUT

Atherton Collieries earned a share of the spoils as they drew 0-0 at Warrington Rylands in midweek. On the one hand, they did well to stifle one of the top scoring sides in the league. Yet, on the other, they failed to register against a team with one of the most porous defences.

Town peppered the Whitby goal in the second half of their most recent outing, but could find a way through as they were denied by an inspired goalkeeping performance from Shane Bland. Chris, Connor Thomson, and Dale Pearson all went close but couldn’t find a way through to cancel out Jacob Day’s 14th minute spot-kick.

THE GAFFER

Highwaymen boss Craig Lynch is ready for the challenge of facing a solid team with a stingy defence that Morpeth will be tasked with breaking down.

“Atherton away is always a tough game but they’ve shown already this season they’re a solid team, not conceding many goals,” he said.

“The league this season has shown everyone is beating everyone, with three points separating us in third down to 17th so we have to show character and resilience with a tough away game.”

Colls assistant manager Rob Sadler is keen to see his side build on two draws on the road with victory over Morpeth.

“It’s another tough game,” he said post-match at Warrington.

“Every game, every team is really, really difficult. We’ve had a good [Saturday-Tuesday] picking up two points away from home.

“We’d have liked to have made it three with some of the chances we had in good areas but it was not to be.

“I’m pleased with a point [against Warrington] but we want to go and back it up on Saturday with three.”
