History
The club was established as Sneinton Football Club in 1904, and soon joined the Notts Alliance, winning the league in 1905–06. They went on to win three consecurtive titles between 1907–08 and 1909–10. In 1984–85 the club were Division Two champions, earning promotion to Division One. After winning Division One in 1992–93, Sneinton were promoted to the Premier Division. In 1995 the club moved up to the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League. The 1997–98 season saw them finish third, earning promotion to the Supreme Division.
In 2002 the club was renamed Carlton Town. They won the Supreme Division in the first season under the new name, and were promoted to Division One of the Northern Counties East League. After winning Division One in 2005–06, Carlton were promoted to the Premier Division. The following season saw them finish third in the Premier Division, earning promotion to Division One South of the Northern Premier League.
In 2008–09 Carlton finished fourth in the division, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. However, they lost 5–2 to Stocksbridge Park Steels in the semi-finals. They entered the play-offs again after finishing as runners-up in 2011–12, but lost 7–6 on penalties to Leek Town in the semi-finals, following a 2–2 draw. The following season saw the club win the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup, beating Sutton Town 5–2 in the final.
Last Match
The Highwaymen were in action in the Integro League Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening and came away from Mariners Park with a comprehensive win over South Shields. Iulian Petrache laid down his marker for goal of the season as he scored from 40 yards. Adam Burnicle volleyed in on the stroke of half time to double the lead; Shields got one back through Gavin Cogdon before Ben Sayer grabbed a late brace.
Carlton also won through to the second round of the same competition as they won at Lincoln United by a 2-1 scoreline. Lincoln took the lead when Cotton raced clear before rounding the Carlton ‘keeper and slotting home. The Millers responded and equalised through Aaron Opoku who turned and fire home. Carlton won the game when Oliver Clark headed home.
Manager
Wayne Scott – Appointed manager following his step up from his Academy role. Scott became the third manager that Carlton had appointed over the course of the previous 19 years.
