Morpeth Town welcome Belper Town to Craik Park for a big game in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.
On a three-game losing streak, the Highwaymen will be hoping to snap that run of form when hosting bottom of the table Belper on Saturday (3pm).
With World Cup games on the big screens, live music post-match, and more World Cup action in the evening, it promises to be a great day!
LAST TIME OUT
Morpeth travelled to Warrington Rylands last Saturday and endured a 2-0 loss at Gorsey Lane. Both goals came in the first half as a deflected strike, after a shot had cannoned back off the woodwork, put the hosts ahead before a penalty on the stroke of half-time put Morpeth further behind. Andrew Johnson came off the bench to hit the post with a free-kick but defeat was confirmed at the final whistle.
Belper shared the spoils after a pulsating 2-2 draw at home to fellow strugglers Whitby Town. They took the lead, only to fall behind heading into the last 10 minutes. But a penalty salvaged a point and kept them in touch with the teams above.
THE GAFFER
Morpeth manager Craig Lynch wants his side to step up and really enjoy a match day, starting with Saturday’s visit from Belper.
“When it comes to Saturday, this is the best day of the week, it’s football day but we’re playing within ourselves – we’ve got to try and shake this off,” he said.
“We’ve got to go and enjoy it. That’s what I want to watch, that’s what supporters want to watch. That’s what everyone wants to watch – people going out and playing with no fear.”
Belper assistant manager Luke Potter is eager to see his side rewarded for the hard work they’re putting in.
“We’ll carry on doing the same thing, the lads are working hard in training ahead of our trip to Morpeth on Saturday,” he said.
“The atmosphere is good in the club but football is about winning games.
“We picked up a point (versus Whitby) when we should have had three, but the only way we’re going to get out of the bottom four is by winning games.”
