The Highwaymen are on the road on Saturday when making the 414-mile round trip to Nantwich Town in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.
The longest away journey for Morpeth, it promises to be a tough test against a side who has won or lost by a single goal in their last five league games.
LAST TIME OUT
The Dabbers recorded their first win in nine league games with a fine 1-0 success at Ashton United. After being beaten by the same team in the reverse fixture the week before, they travelled to Ashton with Dan Cockerline scoring a decisive 57th minute winner. Although it didn’t move them out of the relegation zone, it did haul them within three points of safety.
Morpeth welcomed Marine to Craik Park for a game that pitched 8th versus 9th in a tight top half of the table. However, the Highwaymen came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline, with Marine scoring twice in the second half, including a stoppage time strike from the halfway line, to condemn the Highwaymen to defeat.
THE GAFFER
Morpeth manager Craig Lynch wants a response from his side after the 2-0 reverse at home to Marine on Saturday.
“As a group we were very disappointed with Saturday’s result,” he said.
“It was a chance to take us into the play-offs. That’s gone now and we need to show what we are about on Saturday.
“Nantwich this season evidently haven’t started well but there’s been nothing in their games. We need to be ruthless in both boxes.”
Nantwich boss Gary Taylor-Fletcher was enthused by his side’s 1-0 win at Ashton, a third win of the season that offers hope.
“We’ve been talking the last few weeks about missing that final quality in both boxes,” he said.
“We asked them to enjoy the battle of attacking and trying to break them down (against Ashton). We asked them to enjoy the battle of defending as a team.
“For 90 minutes, we did both. For the last few weeks, we have been playing well but not picking up the wins. But (against Ashton) we had that little bit of quality.”
