History
Both Ossett Town and Ossett Albion managed to gain Northern Premier League status and maintain that level of football for a remarkable time period. Battling each year to survive in this league and infrequently even challenging for a promotion spot.
Over the years talk of merging the clubs has been flirted with and even advance talks took place but to no avail did the officials of each club ever reach an amicable solution.
Queue 2018 and a discussion between both clubs took place on the 4th of January after an Ossett Town Juniors match where the son of John and Emma Chidlaw (Albion owners, along with Lee Summerscales) played in a game refereed by Ossett Town Vice Chairman, Lee Broadbent who operated Town alongside James and Dawn Rogers.
The club was formed in 2018 as the result of a merger between Ossett Albion (formed 1944) and Ossett Town (formed 1936).
Last Match
Chris Chantler scored the only goal of the game as Ossett United won against Pickering Town.
The Highwaymen returned to winning ways on Saturday with a clinical win over Sheffield F.C.. Goals from Liam Henderson who turned in Tom Potter’s effort and a fine David Carson free kick secured the points for Town.
Manager
Andy Welsh: Welsh was previously in charge of Ossett Albion before being appointed after the merger of the two clubs. As a player, Welsh appeared in the Premier League for Sunderland as well as spells at Leicester City and Toronto FC.
