Morpeth Town were blown away by three goals in five second half minutes as Guiseley came from behind to win 3-1 at Craik Park.

The Highwaymen had led in this Pitching In NPL Premier Division clash up until the 68th minute, thanks to Dale Pearson’s rocket of a strike on 33 minutes.

But the visiting Lions would leave their hosts stunned with three goals in five minutes from Adam Haw, Charlie Wood, and Jake Cassidy.

Guiseley were a threat on the attack from the off, with Morpeth struggling to settle into the game as Jameel Ible poked a shot across goal for the away side that was only just off target on four minutes.

Ben Sayer’s rising drive on 22 minutes and Guiseley stopper Kyle Trenerry pushing clear Chris Reid’s cross were the only moments to get the pulses racing for the home support, with Connor Pani’s off-target header coming seconds before Pearson’s brilliant goal.

After coming in off the flank, Jack Foalle rolled the ball into Pearson’s path and he lashed home an unstoppable drive from 20 yards to give the Highwaymen the advantage.

Guiseley upped their game in the second half, with Cassidy’s looping header being tipped over by Dan Lowson in the Morpeth goal, as they began to press for an equaliser that would arrive on 69 minutes throw Haw.

The forward slotted home from close range after Town failed to clear a looping ball in at the back post, with Lowson saving superbly from Ible. However, the rebound fell invitingly for Haw who couldn’t miss.

Worse was to come seconds later when a mis-placed pass in midfield, near enough from the restart, allowed Guiseley to counter. John Johnston’s low drive drew a fine save from Lowson but Wood was on hand to score the rebound and provide a devastating turnaround.

With Town still reeling from this, they’d concede again on 74 minutes, gifting possession in midfield before failing to deal with a looping ball forward. With Josh Robson and Jeff Henderson colliding, Cassidy benefitted to drill a shot past Lowson and condemn the Highwaymen to defeat.

A sprinkling of half chances failed to provide a route back into the game for the home team as Morpeth made it two defeats from their opening two games of the campaign.

They will be seeking a first win on Saturday when they host Matlock Town at Craik Park (3pm). Tickets are available online now. Click here to find them. Alternatively, you can pay on the gate on the day (cash only).
