Morpeth Town secured successive away wins in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division as they impressively beat high-flying Worksop Town 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Two goals in five minutes late in the second half did the damage for the visitors, as Billy Marshall struck before Leon Gibson-Booth added a second to secure three points.

Town once again started Marshall and Gibson-Booth, the pair on one-month loan deals from York City and impressing in our most recent 2-0 win at Prescot Cables on Saturday.

Jerome Greaves earned a first start, with Jack Foalle and Nic Bollado both unavailable, while Jordan Hickey and Nathan Buddle both sat this one out.

The game turned almost instantly when Luke Shiels was dismissed for the Tigers on three minutes, a rash challenge on Greaves ensuring his side would play 87 minutes with 10 men.

Will Dowling had a 25th minute shot cleared off the line as Morpeth patiently probed and pressed without finding a way through.

Worksop made it to half-time on level terms and could have taken an unlikely lead on 58 minutes when Jordan Burrow’s header flew goalwards. He was denied superbly by skipper Jeff Henderson, who cleared off the line.

Morpeth’s patience would be rewarded on 77 minutes when Marshall found the back of the net to give his side a precious advantage.

Expecting a reaction, the visitors not only managed that but then added to their lead five minutes later, Gibson-Booth finding the back of the net to give his side a deserved win on the road.

It propelled them up to 11th in the table, three points off the play-off positions, before another trip on the road, this time to Bamber Bridge on Saturday, 2nd November.
