Morpeth Town can confirm our retained list at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Manager Craig Lynch has been in discussions with the squad and has confirmed the list, which sees Sam Hodgson and Ben Ramsey depart Craik Park.

Midfielder Hodgson featured 103 times for Town, scoring three times, but saw the whole of last season wiped out as he continued his recovery from a serious injury sustained at Basford United the season before. Ramsey made 72 appearances for the Highwaymen, scoring eight goals.

“I felt it was time for Ben to move on to play regular football. Ben had been a great part of the dressing room and is a great lad who needs regular minutes to help him succeed,” said Lynch.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t offer him that over the past few seasons. We all wish him all the best in the future.

“Sam has been a key part of the squad in the five years I have been here, playing a vital part in the league and cup double and leading up to his injury in the 2012/22 season.

“We gave Sam the opportunity last season to continue with us throughout his rehab hoping he could return which unfortunately has not happened yet and we have decided it’s best for both parties that Sam continues his rehab closer to home.

“Sam has been a great person in the dressing room and I hope to see him back on the pitch soon. He is always welcome back.”

The club would like to send our sincere thanks to both Ben and Sam for their contributions to club’s success in recent years and wish them the very best for the next stage of their careers.
