Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch lamented his side’s display after a harrowing 7-0 loss at Worksop Town.
The Highwaymen trailed 4-0 after 31 minutes and 7-0 with eight minutes to go as they were brushed aside by their hosts.
Lynch labelled the events of Tuesday night ‘one of the most disappointing nights I’ve had in football’ as he witnessed his side trail 2-0 after just seven minutes, once again starting slowly away from home and leaving themselves with a mountain to climb that was too high to conquer.
“We knew what Worksop’s danger was going to be,” said the Morpeth boss, whose side are once again on the road – their third away trip in a row – when heading to Stafford Rangers for their longest away day of the campaign.
“The manner of both goals in the first seven minutes, I don’t think Worksop will score easier goals all season.
“Anyone playing away from home on a Tuesday night, if they find themselves 2-0 down in the manner in which we were, it’s tough.
“You are deflated and the game has got away from you even before we’ve had five passes of the ball. For how embarrassing the scoreline looks, it’s still only three points lost so we can’t dwell on it.
“Last night was one of the most disappointing nights I’ve had in football.
“But the lads have shown the resilience to bounce back previously and I’ve got every faith we can do it again.”
It doesn’t again any easier for Morpeth I the Pitching In NPL Premier Division, with a long trip to Stafford on Saturday followed by two home games on the bounce, with league leading Radcliffe arriving on Tuesday followed by a visit from Ilkeston Town.
