Morpeth Town travel to Lancaster City for a traditionally tough trip in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Saturday’s clash in Lancashire sees two sides eager to claim the points and continue their climb away from the relegation spots.

FORM GUIDE

Morpeth: The Highwaymen are a mixed bag at the minute form-wise, having won three and lost three of their previous six league matches. On the road, Morpeth haven’t enjoyed their journeys and have won three of 15 in the NPL away from home.

Lancaster: The Dolly Blues have recorded back to back 2-0 victories and haven’t conceded a goal in 270 minutes of football. They’ve won three of their last six and are putting much-needed breathing space between themselves and the bottom four. They’ve built up a 10-point cushion which will surely be enough to see them safe.

LAST TIME OUT

Morpeth Town did enough to secure three points at home to Nantwich Town, beating the Dabbers 2-1 thanks to an 86th minute Matty Cornish winner. The game was finely poised heading into the closing stages, after Connor Thomson’s penalty on the stroke of half-time was cancelled out by a superb Steven Hewitt free-kick on 59 minutes, but Cornish stole the show late on to seal three crucial points.

Lancaster City have had a busy February and featured again on a Tuesday night, this time winning 2-0 over Marske United. Both goals came in the first half, courtesy of Rudy Misambo’s 12th minute effort and Niall Cowperthwaite’s 25th minute goal. They saw the game out comfortably to secure all three points.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town boss Craig Lynch knows his side has what it takes to match their opponents on Saturday at the Giant Axe.

“Lancaster are on a good run at the moment and are a tough team in the league,” he said.

“They play a high energy game but we’ve shown this season, if we work hard for each other, we have the quality to match any team.

“We need to back Saturday’s win up with another positive result.”

Lancaster manager Mark Fell marked his 150th game in charge of City with a 2-0 win over Marske United on Tuesday night.

I’m really proud of the job that’s been done at the club, I get to lead a team of players and staff who work incredibly hard to try and get the best outcomes for the club and it’s fans every week,” he said.

“It’s a difficult job, no question of that, but the challenge is part of the motivation.

“In 150 games we’ve clearly made massive progress from the foot of the NPL, to playoff challengers, LFA cup winners and now a team who are on the up again after a challenging few months. This is a great club, filled with great people, and I look forward to more success.”
