Joe Walton was the hero for Morpeth Town as he stepped off the bench and scored a late brace to secure all three points for the Highwaymen.
First, he scrambled the ball home before coolly rolling home a penalty; Buxton made it a nervy final few minutes when Bradley Grayson scored from the spot.
The first half was one of very few chances which was probably shaded by the visitors. Indeed, the half chances that were created generally fell the way of the Bucks.
The first chance arrived on 2 minutes but Warren Clarke fired his effort high over the bar when well placed on the edge of the area.
Diego De Girolamo who posed a danger throughout the game for the visitors gave notice of the danger he possessed when he whistled an effort wide of the post on 8 minutes.
The equally impressive, Brad Grayson delivered a delightful free kick into the middle of the box but captain Brad Roscoe headed over the bar as the visitors continued to dominate chances.
It took until the 22nd minute for Morepth to register an attempt on goal. Liam Henderson turned on a sixpence on the edge of the area before drilling a low effort towards goal but it was deflected into the arms of Grant Shenton.
Wayne Phillips who had been a peripheral figure in the game up until the 33rd minute, fizzed an effort over the bar as Morpeth pressed.
The best chance of the game arrived on the stroke of half time and it came through Sean Reid. He met Sean Taylor’s cross and was desperately unlucky to see his header come back off the bar. Tom Potter was lurking to fire home the rebound but the ball was pinched off his toes.
The Highwaymen came out for the second half looking fired up; Sean Reid, nodded over the bar as Town looked to get in front.
On 53 minutes, Jeff Henderson and Sean Taylor both went close. Henderson was poised at the back post to power home a header but was beaten to it by Connor O’Grady. From the corner, it was played to Taylor but he clipped his strike over the bar.
Potter and Reid both had further chances to put Town into the lead but neither shot was on target and the visitors escaped.
The visitors despite being on the backfoot for the half reminded the home side of what danger they possessed. Ryan Jennings arrived as a substitute and nearly made an immediate impact; as he smashed an effort wide.
That missed was punished when Morpeth’s own arrival, Joe Walton scrambled the ball home from Taylor’s through ball on 75 minutes.
The lead was doubled on 82 minutes and it was the supersub again with the goal. Liam Henderson gave chase to a ball into the box and was barged over in the area by O’Grady. The referee took his time before pointing to the spot. Walton, rolled the ball home to secure his double.
The visitors made stoppage time a nervy affair; Grayson converted a spot kick of his own after the referee had adjudged Jennings to have been brought down in the box.
There was to be no scares in added time, as the Highwaymen deservedly hung on to gain another valuable 3 points.
