As a demanding fixture schedule starts to take its toll, injuries are starting to mount at the club, writes Ross Jackson.
We caught up with Sports Therapist Steven Shaw to get an update on those missing and when we hope they’ll return…
Liam Miller
Liam unfortunately has suffered an ACL rupture with meniscus damage which will keep him out for the season.
Liam was advised against surgery last season and after a full conservative rehab and getting back playing he twisted his knee in training. After imaging and consultations, he is booked in for surgery in mid-October with a target of being back for the beginning of next season.
Vinnie Steels
Unfortunately, he suffered a similar injury to Liam during our game away at Ashton United. Although no two ACL injuries are identical his prognosis is similar to Liam’s, we’re hoping to have his surgery scheduled around the same time as Liam. They’ll obviously support each other and will hope to return around a similar time.
It’s a massive blow to the club but it’s more importantly a blow to them, two young lads with so much potential. One thing is for sure, the club will support them all the way and know the supporters will give the lads their best wishes when they see them around the ground on match days.
Jordan Hickey
Jordan had a double whammy during the game with Guiseley, with his hand being stood on which required an x-ray as a precaution (results to follow) but at the same time he took a knee to the head and suffered a concussion.
Jordan will be monitored and continually assessed but won’t be available until he has gone through the FA’s concussion graduated return to play protocol.
Jeff Henderson
Jeff was injured in a tackle in the Spennymoor game which saw him develop quite a hefty haematoma on his quad. Although it would have been extremely painful and debilitating, it was good to get the skipper back in the starting XI on Tuesday night.
Josh King
Kingy was the same as Jeff, maybe a little worse with a stamp on his ankle and was probably fortunate not to suffer a fracture. He still has quite a lot of swelling and had some localised nerve damage, which healed well and it was good to have him play the full 90 minutes on Tuesday night.
