Following our 2-1 home defeat on Saturday to Frickley Athletic, we look at three things that we learned from the game.

  1. Wayne Phillips is pretty useful with his head.

Our midfield maestro is perhaps best known for his range of passing and his fantastic footballing brain. However, on Saturday, he used his head to great effect. His run into the penalty area was completely untracked and he was able to nod home Liam Henderson’s inch perfect cross.

  1. Joe Walton is our very own Mr. Versatile.

In recent weeks, Joe has been operating at right back which has been a surprise to some fans. However, the usually attacking minded player has shown his worth by his sense of positioning and non-stop running up and down the touchline. Someone with the ability to play a range of positions across the pitch is a valuable commodity in modern football.

  1. A quiet afternoon for Dan Lowson.

Apart from picking the ball out of his net on two occasions, Dan Lowson will wonder how he ended up on the losing side. Apart from a fine point blank save halfway through the first half, the ‘keeper could have had the afternoon off because he had so little to do.
