ELEVEN goals, three penalties, two hat-tricks and a red card. Where do you start with our 8-3 win over AFC Mansfield?:
Chris Reid had a …erm…busy day.
The left-back found the back of the net twice, hit the bar with a rising drive, hit his own bar with a miscued header and put one shot from 10 yards so far over, we’ve widened the search for the ball to the local golf course. A busy afternoon for the left-back and one that will rarely be repeated. But it was certainly impressive to see the full-back on the front foot and he often added an extra attacking outlet which Morpeth used to good effect to overload AFC Mansfield.
Hat-trick hero adds goals to his game.
The midfielder is always keen to find the back of the net and he did just that to such effect he took the match ball home with him. A fierce near-post drive, a low strike and a penalty earned him a hat-trick. He doubled his tally for the season in this one game and it was a fine way to mark his 50th appearance for the Highwaymen. His energy and enthusiasm drives Morpeth forward at times and goals is what his performances deserve at present. Long may that continue.
Play to the whistle everybody!
Morpeth continued to press right until the final whistle and their persistence paid off as they netted four in the final seven minutes of this one to stretch clear. David Carson scored twice, with Jack Foalle coming off the bench to register his sixth in seven outings. Chris Reid rounded off the scoring in stoppage time as Town ran riot with a strong finish.
Lesson learned? Play to the final whistle.
