Morpeth Town made it eight Evo-Stik East wins in a row to maintain their top of the table status.
After a 1-0 win over Lincoln United, who had been sitting fourth, we learned a few things about the side. Here are three:
David Carson is up and running
The midfielder has been waspish in the middle of the park, covering every blade of grass on a regular basis for the Highwaymen. But, by his own high expectations, he demands a goal presence from himself too. The first goal of his campaign proved decisive as he ghosted in off the left side of the box before firing into the top corner to score a decisive, match-winning strike. His celebrations showed what it meant to him and he’ll certainly be expecting to get on the scoresheet sometime in the not too distant future.
Sean Taylor is human after all
When the midfielder stood a few yards back from the penalty spot with just the keeper to beat, most inside Craik Park thought the rest would be a formality. There was a stunned silence when Taylor’s spot-kick was pushed wide by Lincoln United stopper Michael Emery as no-one had even contemplated that outcome! Tayls will be back among the goals soon, that is for sure, as he loves finding the back of the net; he has already done it 115 times for the Highwaymen.
Our defence loves clean-sheets
Four clean-sheets in a row, coupled with only five conceded in nine league games, makes our defence the strongest in the league at present. Our closest rival in that department, Ossett United, have shipped double that, and one more, which makes our defence look all the better in the context of Evo-Stik East. The management talk of defending as a team; that approach is certainly paying off so far.
