Morpeth Town are delighted to welcome Craig Lynch to the club as assistant manager, with current player Stephen Turnbull taking on a role as player assistant.
The former Blyth Spartans midfielder will still play for the Highwaymen, but will now be involved with the coaching of the team too.
Lynch, formerly manager of Seaham Red Star, joins after leaving his last side at the start of May where he was still a player last season.
“It was very unexpected when Nicky (Gray, Morpeth boss) rang me offering me the chance to be on the coaching staff and it is a chance I’ve jumped at to be working and learning from someone like Nicky and alongside Shawsy (Steven Shaw, Morpeth sports therapist) and Twinny (Stephen Turnbull),” said Lynch, whose playing career was plagued by injury but still featured for Sunderland, Hartlepool, Rochdale, Spennymoor and Blyth Spartans.
“Already knowing a few lads from playing alongside, and against, them, I know the quality within the squad. With the ambition of the club and chairman, I imagine we will be in for a great season.”
Turnbull, nearing a return from a long-term knee injury, is delighted to take up the role and is keen to have an impact at the club.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Turnbull told the club website.
“It is interesting to see it from this side of the fence. I can’t wait to use all of the knowledge I have gained in my career and pass it on to the lads.
“I’d like to think I have taken the best bits from each of the managers I have played under and I’d like to make my own mark too.
“My main focus will be on playing, but if I can help out then that would be tremendous. Nick asked me and I was buzzing he asked. There’s no way I am thinking I am just going into coaching though. I’ve never had pace to lose so I think I have got four or five years left of playing.”
